We’ve got an exciting and unique house concert experience coming up with Grainne Murphy and Isaac Alderson!
Gráinne grew up near Boston, MA, playing and listening to traditional Irish music at sessions around Boston and in front of the turntable with her parents’ vinyl record collection, which included gems like the solo fiddle albums of Martin Byrnes and Kathleen Collins. She learned from the great fiddle player Seamus Connolly from Co. Clare who not only taught her to play but also introduced her to other musicians in the tradition and shared his stories about the music. Some of her favorite experiences as a musician come from the six years when she lived in New York City and played music with many wonderful musicians, including Isaac Alderson.
She toured and recorded with the band Cherish the Ladies for several years and recorded a solo album in 2010 called Short Stories. She lives in Dublin, Ireland where she has been having fun lately getting to know her new hardanger fiddle and working up to a second album.
A native of the city of Chicago, Isaac Alderson was introduced to Irish music in his early teenage years. He had the good fortune of growing up in a city with a deep-rooted Irish music scene and studied the uilleann pipes, flute, and tin whistle with strong guidance from many local musicians, most consistently from his primary teacher, the great flute and whistle player Laurence Nugent.
In 2001, he moved to New York and began a career as a performing musician. Having traveled much of the world with groups such as The Yanks, Ensemble Galilei, Eileen Ivers and Immigrant Soul, Riverdance, and the Broadway musical Come From Away, his years of playing sessions and concerts alongside Gráinne Murphy remain a highlight among his musical experiences. He currently lives in the Bronx and continues to tour with Come From Away.
Since Isaac is on tour with Come From Away, which will return to Denver for a one week engagement, and Gráinne is flying in for work that week, the only time we could put together this event is a Monday night.
HOUSE CONCERT
Monday, October 10 2022 (Columbus Day)
7PM (arrive any time after 6:30)
$20 Suggested Donation
We will have some snacks out as usual, and folks can bring drinks to share. Being that it is a Monday night, the festivities may be a bit more subdued compared to our normal soirees, but bring instruments so that we can have a little session after the show!
Don’t miss out on this one! It has been a few years since these two have been able to get together to make the magical music that they will share with us. I’m sure it will be one to remember!
